Though I like to imply my days in the news world are over by referring to myself as a “recovering journalist,” I tend to keep one foot in the journalism world. My current work would probably lend itself to any number of bedazzled titles—digital media guru, social media consultant, community manager, content specialist—but at the end of the day, I’m just a guy who writes stuff.

After receiving a degree in creative writing from Columbia College Chicago, I spent six years writing for CBS Chicago’s digital department. During the day, I’d diligently created articles for the watchful eye of CBS. At night, I’d read intentionally-dumb stories at literary events across the city.

Starting out at CBS, I ran the lifestyle section, writing and editing nightlife, food and family articles. Over time, my duties shifted as I covered more serious topics like crime and politics. By the end of my tenure, I was helping to run the content on our many music sites, writing and editing music articles for all genres while also helping to train and manage our web producers.

My post-CBS days have been filled with a wide range of freelance jobs, mostly copywriting. Among the most interesting work I’ve done has been with SUJO, a social media app attempting to fix the world’s “fake news” problem.
